Group Health Insurance

GroupHealthInsurance
Group health insurance is a policy that is purchased by an employer and coverage under it is offered to eligible employees and their families.  This is not only an employee benefit the employee receives for working for that company, but it is the most popular and many would argue the most important of any employee benefit which may be offered.  The majority of Americans have group health insurance coverage through their employer or the employer of a family member.  One of the advantages for employees in a group health plan is the contribution most employers make toward the cost of the health coverage premium – employers often pay half or more of the monthly premium for an employee.  Additionally, since these are "group" insurance plans, they have additional protections and state and federal mandates that individual policies and social welfare programs simply do not.  Another advantage is that most employers have established Section 125 Cafeteria Plans that allow employees to pay any employee-required contributions with pre-tax dollars.  Between the employer contributions, which aren’t taxable for employees, and the Pre-Tax deductions, employer-provided health insurance is arguably the most valuable employee benefit provided by employers with the assistance of favorable tax laws.
